  1. There is comprehensive guide line (PR) to assess the eligibility for IESL membership. Recognized Training requirement at least 48 months and responsible experience at least 48 months.
However as per my observation this requirement is heavily depend on the reviewer and most of the situations reviewer do not have insight of the working organization of the reviewee.
When an engineer recruited to a particular organization, assigned work may vary and depends. Perhaps these works may not align with the PR requirements. Some of Associate members still could not achieved membership due to the work that they are engaging.
I believe that IESL do have role here. It should intervene with approved organizations (also when organization going to be approved) such that organization should comply engineering engagement at their work so engineers can achieve their IESL membership in minimal eligible duration.

  2. I am a foreign graduate and I had a very hard time with the IESL about 20 years back which made me giving up getting the membership. But now a days it has become that you must get the charter ( i am referring to civil ) to survive in the field. And the IESL also has become more user friendly, more accessible, more sophisticated. Still it is a bit complicated thing for the private sector engineers to go through this process- when you do not have senior engineers to work under, where you can not find a place to do your design etc.. Still I thank IESL for the effort to become a good place and the helping hand given to engineers to be professionally qualified.
